About Modern Mamre

In 1984, the NSW Department of Planning made Mamre Homestead and surrounding acreage available to the Sisters of Mercy to be developed as a training centre for the unemployed of the area.

Training Programs

Over the years, several programs have been successfully implemented to meet the perceived needs of time. The State Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, together with the Federal Government Department of Family and Community Services and Education, Employment and Workplace Relations now provide funding for the continuing development and delivery of training programs.

Skills Training

The present training includes skills in modern office administration, information technology, hospitality and customer service. The programs are taught in a supportive atmosphere where personal development is encouraged and nurtured. The homestead provides job opportunities in the hospitality industry.

Treasuring History

Amid all this activity the Mamre Homestead retains a quiet elegance reminiscent of a past era, treasuring history while providing modern services. Your patronage is appreciated and contributes to the continuation of training programs provided through the project.

Mamre Plains Ltd

Mamre Plains Ltd is a non-profit company set up by the Sisters of Mercy in 1985. The company is governed by a Board of community and business people, chaired by Mr. Gerard Hermens with specialised expertise and a deep commitment to the Mamre vision.

Sr Mary-Louise Petro is Chief Executive Officer of the Mamre Project, and Mr Bob Thatcher is the General Manager. Mechanisms exist for staff participation in the management process.
